The former Acting Vice-Chancellor suggested sufficient social support, education, raising awareness, promoting a culture of acceptance around depression and other mental health problems, sharing of struggles with depression, referring victims to a mental health care professional, exploring creative ways to support recovery as ways of helping those affected.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education Professor Ozo-Mekuri Ndimele described the inaugural lecture as a high class presentation adding that Professor Joseph Barineka Kinanee has justified his being a professor with the lecture.

A native of Kaa community in Babbe district of khana local government area of the state, Professor Joseph Kinanee is a professor of counselling psychology in the department of Educational Psychology, Guidance and Counselling. He joined the institution in 1991 as an Assistant Lecturer and rose through the ranks to the position of s senior lecturer. He got his promotion to the rank of a professor in counselling psychology in 2012. His research interests are psychopathology, careers education counseling, family life and HIV/Aids counselling, Geriatric Counselling.
He is married to Josephine Nkem Bosede Kinanee and the marriage is blessed with children.
